College Rankings, are they a scam or legit?

College Rankings, are they a scam or legit?

The college president's top priority is to protect the college ranking, everything else is secondary!

I hear every week people are wanting to evaluate colleges strictly based on the college ranking as if it's some magical indicator of a student's success. It is certainly used as a measurement of a college quality and value. But should it be?

The answer should be found in evaluating the criteria that goes into a college ranking, such as-

    - 4 year graduation rate

    - Job placement rate

    - Avg. starting salary of graduates

    - Internship opportunity

    - Research opportunity

    - Study abroad opportunity

    - GPA of incoming freshmen

    - Range and depth of degree programs

    - Avg. student loan debt upon graduation

    - Campus investment

I could buy into that if this was in fact the list of criteria. But no, none of these items go into a college ranking. That's right, NONE.

In fact, the top criteria of fifteen for establishing a college ranking at 18% weight is of all things, the 6-year graduation rate, that's preposterous and it makes rankings a farce. It's no wonder the national average time it takes to graduate with a 4-year degree is 5.8 years. No accident there, rather it's by design of the college and driven by the ranking system. Colleges are masters at molding their interests into your behaviors...5.8 years worth.

    College- an Obligation or Investment?

    College- an Obligation or Investment?

When thinking of college for your child, what is it, an obligation to them or an investment in them?

Most people quickly respond to this question with absolute certainty- It's an investment!!!

But their actions speak otherwise. And down the beaten trail they go, preceded by millions of others, who pick the wrong colleges, wrong majors, and wrong costs.

Why do they do this? Because they treat it as an obligation, not an investment.

If it was an investment, the parents-

    - would get started earlier in the process

    - would be more knowledgeable of the process

    - would learn how college's do their business

    - would know how to create unique advantages

    - would understand the timeline

    - would have a college list

    - would have a defined strategy

    - would focus on getting the right outcome

    - would work from a position of strength

    - would leave weakness and guesswork to others

Being involved, engaged, and knowledgeable is a proactive decision. Anything otherwise leaves you in a weakened, reactive mode, and that's not the platform for getting college right.

If you're not sure where you stand, then let's talk. My families get the college outcomes they desire, and not by treating it as an obligation.

How Social Media Affects College Opportunity

How Social Media Affects College Opportunity

You can't talk your way out of what you
    behaved yourself into!

Years of hard work can be thrown away in a moments notice with a careless post on Facebook. It's as simple as that and it applies to college. Here's how-

Don't be mistaken about the college admissions and scholarship process.

Don't be fooled by what you think the obligations are of the college to carefully review and consider your child's application.

Don't think for a moment that your $75 application fee warrants their time and attention.

    C
ollege admission counselors would like to find a reason within 5 minutes to reject or defer an application. They have 3 immediate sources-

1- they go straight to the GPA and SAT's/ ACT's
2- they go straight to the application essay
3- they go straight to Facebook

Each source is accessible within 5 minutes and each can by itself be cause for denial or deferral. In fact, over 40% of admission counselors recently surveyed indicated they immediately look at the student's Facebook.

A student's GPA and SAT/ ACT scores represent years of hard work. Their essay can represent hours of diligent work. A Facebook post can represent a moment of carelessness or irresponsibility. A student's real self can be exposed in social media. Once exposed, there is no talking their way out of it! And colleges will not risk their reputation on those students, big GPA or not.

    It's the # 1 Differentiating Factor

    It's the # 1 Differentiating Factor

Colleges report that 75% of applicants meet the academic standard for admissions acceptance.

However, few colleges accept that high of percentage, so what do they do to differentiate amongst the academic qualifiers?

This entire series has been dedicated to answering that question. We have given you 8 great and valuable tips on winning admissions and earning scholarships. We saved the biggest hit for # 9, and the most important one for # 10.

Our CollegeLogic students create Blog Sites and post to them on issues related to their interest in college studies. They research and post published articles for commenting on them. Doing this builds knowledge and awareness in their studies of interest while serving to build their brand. This is powerful!

Having a Blog Site related to their interests in college studies is the top differentiating and distinguishing factor for enhancing applicant credentials. And we just might be the only college-advising company to offer it. Here is one of our great student's Blog Site, a 2019 graduate- AJ's Investment Studies

Our Top 10 Admission and Scholarship Tip-

    # 9- Create and build a Blog Site relating to the student's interest in college studies; it will amaze and impress college officials beyond belief.

That makes perfect College-Logical sense to me, though it's anything but typical. Only about 1 in 25,000 students have a Blog Site.

Would you like one for your child? Call us and we'll get you started right away.

Would you like to learn how to save thousands on college costs? It's all right here in our book, either in eBook or hard-cover. We have it ready to send you.
